Winter bedding plants for our November Banner

Downside Update

After a very dull autumn and winter, spring is slowly arriving. The first of the cherry blossom is showing and the sarcococcas are in full flower and smelling fantastic. The big greenhouse is packed with colour – pansies & violas, primroses, bellis and anemones.  We have a wonderful display of hellebores, the ‘Double Queen Mixed’ are producing some outstanding blooms and we have an excellent crop of Frostkiss ‘Anna’s Red’ and Frostkiss ‘Molly’s White’. The Frostkiss Hellebore series has come about by crossbreeding and a very strong, weather-resistant hellebore with colourful flowers and wonderful foliage is the result. These were named ‘best buys’ by Gardening Which for their long flowering period and reliability.
The spring bulbs are showing colour, hyacinth, snowdrops, the very pretty “hooped petticoat” bulbcodium ‘Arctic Bells’ and the ever-reliable ‘Tête à Tête’.

Our thanks to Ball Colgrave for the images of the Frostkiss Hellebores,
