Despite a couple of warm days (end Feb) we undoubtedly have a lot of cold weather and frosts still to come. Plenty of time for the tender things later, but a good time for planting trees and shrubs. Nowadays, when almost everything comes containerised, you can plant any time of the year, but spring is less stressful for the plant and a lot less work in after care for the gardener.
If you do plant now, remember to keep an eye on things and water when necessary. This is particularly important for evergreens. Cold winds can be very drying and you do not get wilting to warn you.
We still have a good stock of hedging on the nursery but it is moving fast. We can take orders for bare root until the end of March or thereabouts.
