Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Lady in Red’

Lady in Red

Isn’t this stunning?

‘Lady in Red’ is a compact, branching, thicket-forming, suckering, deciduous shrub with lobed, doubly-toothed, veined red to red-purple leaves and clusters of small, cup-shaped, pale pink flowers in summer followed by pale brown to red fruit in autumn.  That’s a lot of adjectives on one descriptive ticket!

Maybe we’ve got it all wrong and this is what Phil Collins meant in his song “Lady in Red”.   “Never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight”
