November at Downsides Nurseries

Autumn Bedding and looking ahead to Spring

Gardens are starting to look a bit battered now – time to make the break and root out the summer bedding. Our pansies and violas are looking splendid, and the sooner you get them planted, the better, so they can have time to get properly rooted before the really cold weather. We stick with the slightly smaller-flowered Panola series of pansies as these are true winter flowerers. The larger flowered types look lovely now but will stop flowering in a few weeks and not start again until March. We also have bellis, primroses and polyanthus in packs. and a wide range of small hardy plants, including trailing violas in pots to cheer up your winter garden.

Looking ahead to spring, we have wallflowers in pots –  plain colours and mixed. These were grown as individual plugs, so they will transplant well and establish quickly. £5 for a 3L pot with 10/12 plants. Also, foxgloves in packs –  the sooner these are planted, the better your display will be. A dramatic display for a very small outlay. (£3.50 for a pack of 6)
